MONSTERS

OUT OF

THE CLOSET

A QUEER HORROR ZINE. Beneath the surface level grime and carnage, there’s tenderness and love, there’s compassion and pride. Horror rejects societal norms and expectations, it explores subversive concepts not touched on by traditional media. Horror movies are horny, horror movies explore identity, horror movies are powerful. The inherent experience of being othered, the fears that come with being noticed as different, all exist within the genre. Why wouldn’t queer people gravitate towards a genre where the protagonists are threatened by killers who want to want to see them dead for arbitrary reasons. Why would any queer or trans person want to experience fear and psychological discomfort in the controlled frame of a fictional movie with the safe knowledge that once the movie ends the unpleasantness is over and that it's all just a horror movie and not reality.
